I detailed everything they needed to know about the job. They said they couldn't quote me but would be fair. I then said that I hoped it would not end up costing something crazy like 1000 dollars. They said, "Oh no, should be well below that." The day of the install everything went well and the plumber was done after about 2.5 hours. Then came the shock: "What did we agree on, 1000?" I said no, I had hoped for it to be well below, as discussed. He did not budge and insisted on 1000. I reluctantly paid, but this left a bad taste in my mouth. How can a 2.5 hour job with some fittings thrown in cost 1000? And how could it be exactly 1000? I believe I was taken advantage of. Lesson learned, I will never hire anyone again without a written estimate."
